Silica sand is distinguished by its high chemical purity. The SiO2 contents range in excess of 99.5%.Silica has a high melting point, making it an ideal product for use in foundries.For industrial and manufacturing applications, deposits of silica yielding products of at least 95% SiO2 are preferred. Silica is hard, chemically inert and has a high melting point, attributable to the strength of the bonds between the atoms.

Uses of Quartz Grains

Quartz is used in various Industries as main Product and also as filler. Following are the Industries where it is used:

  1. Glass Industries– Quartz sand is used in the production of container glass, flat plate glass, specialty glass, and fiberglass.
  2. Quartz as Abrasive – Quartz sands and finely ground silica sand are used for sand blasting, scouring cleansers, grinding media, and grit for sanding and sawing.
  3. Foundary-it can be used for the molds and cores of common foundry work. Refractory bricks are often made of quartz sand because of its high heat resistance. Quartz sand is also used as a flux in the smelting of metals.
  4. Oil & Gas Industries – In the petroleum industry, sand slurries are forced down oil and gas wells under very high pressures in a process known as hydraulic fracturing. This high pressure fractures the reservoir rocks, and the sandy slurry injects into the fractures. The durable sand grains hold the fractures open after the pressure is released. These open fractures facilitate the flow of natural gas into the well bore.
  5. Paints – Used as Filler.
  6. Water Purification – Water is passed through Quartz Wall.
  7. Ramming Mass – Used as Plastering Component.
